7 Quick Takes: Baby Carriers, Arguers and Prom Hair

1. Kelly nominated me for a Liebster, so I thought I'd just answer her questions here (sorry I'm just getting to it).

What is your favorite season and why?
Fall.  I love the smells, colors, crispness of the air...just everything!

What was your favorite vacation ever?
Hmmm.  I might have to say our trip last summer to Sea Island.  It was the perfect venue for complete relaxation.  If you'd have asked me this when I was 10, I would say Disneyland, but when I think of perfect vacations these days, it's all about laying low.

What is dream meal? As in what would you eat if you had one meal left to eat?
I love so many foods!  So, this is a hard one for me.  Maybe a filet with broccoli and a baked potato?

What is your favorite breakfast food?
Not for every day, but we have them every Sunday...pancakes!

Are you a morning person or a night owl? Or do you force yourself to be one or the other?
Was a night owl but have converted to a morning person since living here and having kids.

Are you an introvert or extrovert?
Introvert completely but I can make myself extroverted.

Would you rather go to the beach or the mountains?
Beach.  Driving through the mountains makes me carsick.  But, I do love them when I get to my destination.

Describe an ideal day off from work/responsibilities/etc.
Hmm, I think it would start with coffee at a fun place.  Then I'd make sure to get in a mani/pedi and maybe a massage and enjoy meals with my husband or best friends.  Plus maybe some quiet time in a book store.  Nothing too crazy.

What is your favorite book of all time?
I always seems to default to Mere Christianity.

What is your favorite movie of all time?
I'm horrible at these decisions.  I loved Saving Private Ryan.  I just love the heroism in those movies.

2.  Okay, so I've see a lot of people talking about "eating clean" lately.  I know it is not a new phenomenon, but I'm usually late to the party.  Is anyone reading this doing it?  If so, do you love/hate it?  I could probably stand to give the boys a few less hot dogs, and maybe eat a little less chocolate myself ;)

3.  Please tell me arguing/"but but but" is a stage and not a personality.  Please.  This little dude is really good at it.  We were eating at a restaurant today and he wasn't staying in his chair.  Granted he was right by his chair (which was right next to me), and he kept "petting my head."  I asked him to stop (and stay seated) numerous times until I finally grabbed his little arm saying I shouldn't have to ask him fifty times to stop something. His reply (with a shrug of his shoulder): "It was only eighteen."

Ahh!

4.  I am terrible with baby carries/clings/wraps, you name it.  If I can't hold my baby, I put them down, or in a stroller.  BUT, with every new baby I think I need to try it again, ha!  We'll be in Chicago for my sister's wedding with a 5-week-old Sophie, so I kinda have to.  Grace inspired me to order a Happy Baby Wrap.
Happy Wrap Baby Organic Bamboo Carrier - Slate

I think the thing I hate most about all of them (haven't yet tried this one) is that I feel I cannot bend over or really feel comfortable doing much without worrying that the baby will fall out or that the baby is really uncomfortable.  I don't feel secure with them.  I know this all probably boils down to me wearing them wrong, so here's to one more try!  Any tips, though, would be awesome!

5.  Have you read this piece on marriage?  If not, maybe take a minute to do so.  It's great!

6.  This little guy...
...still isn't walking.  He'll be 17 months on the 8th.  Sure, he climbs things, takes as many as 10 steps on his own, will walk if I hold his hand, but just doesn't really have the desire to move slower than he can crawl.  Hope he's okay.

7.  I'm doing my cousin's hair for prom this weekend.  I think she wants something like this:
which will probably end up looking like this:

Lord, help us.

Have a great weekend, and check out the other bloggers at Jen's!

  1. Davis just started walking consistently a few weeks ago. He definitely felt like he could get places more quickly with his turbo crawl! And the arguing! Goodness, Miles could medal in child litigation, if that were a thing. We role play listening the first time and sometimes that gets us back on track, for a few hours at least!
    Sending love,
    Renae

  2. Hey there! LOVE the beach, too. Though I'm secretly dreaming of another trip to Disney World. Maybe I can celebrate my 40th there? :) Never got into a 'wrap' or sling here - though I really tried… I absolutely fell in love with an ERGO baby carrier for #5. I wished I'd found it about a decade earlier… I could loan you ours if you're interested! I consider it a must have for any momma! As for a late walker… No worries. Two of our boys were like that! The littlest didn't walk AT ALL until 17+ months. I considered it a gift to watch him crawl all over the place for so long! The piece on marriage - SO GOOD and spot on! And girl… Enjoy doing that hair this weekend!

  3. My sister had one that didn't walk until 20 months (iirc). I think it's normal. And the arguing. I think normal but also one of those things that are constantly being worked on. Like listening the first time. Normal not to but always working on it. Not that I'm an expert! ;)

The baby wrap - you just have to get one in that style tied on pretty tight and baby will be secure. I love a wrap for the first 3 months or so.

Love your answers for the Liebster!

  4. Ha! Doing someone's hair for prom is so much pressure! At least, since I'm not a hairdresser, it is for me. Good luck - and be careful with your large bow placement and don't overdo it on the Aqua Net. ;)

  5. haha.. the prom picture!

I am the same way with baby wearing. If I don't hold them, I place them down. I am also weird about cooking and baby wearing. I get anxious with that knife a foot away from my baby (anxiety coming out!)

but with the age gap between isabel and sebastian, it is definitely easier to "wear him" and either hold or also carry isabel! aah.. i usually do this during grocery trips or at the play ground.

  6. The prom pictures are hilarious. HILARIOUS. I know you are going to do a great job!!

I am sure JP is just fine. My guess is that he is going to be your laid back kid---Carter is all high strung, Peter is all sensitive, I think JP just goes with the flow. That means he doesn't really have to get up and walk anywhere, he can just hang out where he is for now!

  7. Too funny, I just ordered this happy wrap in seafoam the other day and it came yesterday! I was watching videos and practicing with it this morning =) I'm really looking forward to using this wrap. I hope we both like it!!! It also hear that the ERGO baby carrier is wonderful too. I may look into that one as well.

  8. Visited for consecutive weekends, they do a lot of pop up sample sales. Not anything practical to wear but good to scope out what is happening in the fashion world.

  9. We love our Maya Wrap! It's so easy-peasy and works great from birth to toddler (I still am able to use it comfortably with Eli~23 lbs). It's also wonderful as nursing cover at any point because there's a lot of give to the fabric. Love our Maya! Moby type wraps are comfy cozy but allll the fabric gets a little much sometimes. I think there's an abridged version (if that makes sense, lol) of the moby. I just can't remember the name. I'll get back to you :)

  10. Fastidious respond in return of this matter with real arguments and explaining all on the topic of that.
