7 Quick Takes...

7 quick takes sm1 7 Quick Takes Friday (vol. 217)

Doing the usual Friday thing, and linking with Jen!

1.  I know a lot of people have been writing about their experiences with bugs lately.  Jen's would have sent me over the edge.  Seriously.  Well, I have a little one of my own, too.  We live in a dry (very dry) area, and we had our house sprayed inside and out just two weeks ago.  One last note before I get to the meat of this...I wear house shoes.  We have a lot of wood/tile, and I don't like my feet to be cold ever, so I wear house shoes.  Because I was lazy the other night, I didn't go get my shoes (that weren't in my room) for the night...just went barefoot.  Well, when little John Paul woke at 5:30, I grabbed him out of his crib and stepped on something crunchy.  I thought, "Hmm, maybe a dead leaf?" and didn't look.  A couple hours later, when the room was light, I remembered stepping on something and went back to check/throw away what it was...a CENTIPEDE!  A 3-4 inch.centipede.that.I.stepped.on.  I am still alive.  It isn't.

2.  I brag about my sister a lot.  If you knew her, you would too!  She is the sweetest, most thoughtful, creative person you know.  And, she is good at everything she does.  Didn't run in high school - no problem.  She runs marathons now.  Didn't take art in school - no problem.  She has drawings hanging in the ND architecture school from her freshman year.  Writes like she is a calligrapher, decorates packages like high-end department stores, prays like a saint...you get the picture.  She also works with Father Robert Barron.  And, she wrote this post this week.  Read it!

3.  I sometimes have a hard time trying again.  Sometimes I get "burned" and then give up.  Then I think, "Don't be silly, Britt.  Do the right thing."  I have conversations with myself a lot :)  Then I try again, something goes wrong and well, I get mad at myself, thinking "You should have known this would happen!"  Whether it is with friends, family or those I barely know, instead of loving without condition, I often love with the condition of what will be good for me...will I feel better about it?  Can I say that I tried even if they didn't?  Can I do this half-way, then mark it off the list saying I "did my best" to make the situation better?  And, do I do things simply for my peace of mind and in a way for others to see that I am not the one "in the wrong."  Yes, I have a lot to work on.  My mom texted yesterday to make sure I read the meditation in The Magnificat for May 16th...woah!!  You really don't want to miss this either.  Thanks for the message, God :)

4.  The boys have been exploring a lot lately.  Maybe soon, Carter's head lamp will be positioned correctly and Peter will turn his flash light the correct way.  It would make for easier exploring, that's for sure!

5.  We're going to the beach with Jeremy's family this summer.  I cannot wait!  However, I have never flown with any of the boys.  And, only John Paul has been on a road trip that lasted more than four hours.  We're taking all three.  If you have ANY tips for traveling with a 3 year old, 1.5 year old, and 6 month old, I am all ears.

6.  There is nothing quite like getting a new Duluth magazine and looking for things you need with Dad :)

while picking your nose...

7.  As I am writing this post, Peter walks into the room looking like this:

Looks like he found my make-up and is trying to imitate Mama circa 1999...the no lips phenomenon.  Thanks to Hallie, I'll be using my Folex to get it out of the carpet!

Don't forget to look at all the other quick takes at The Conversion Diary!  Have a good one!

  1. Hi friend - We travel quite a bit with our gang - and have done so since they were tiny tots. By far our biggest adventure was probably last fourth of July, with an 8 year old, 7 year old, 3 year old, 8 month old and four week old. I'm still not sure how we did it?

My advice... Be organized in packing their clothes. If it's a beach vacation - remember less is more. They'll be in suits and wet half the time. Also, don't overpack - b/c if you're in a condo or beach house, you'll still be doing laundry. All the time. Because a vacation isn't really a total vacation b/c there's always work to do. :)

Stock up on little things they can do while you're traveling... We haven't flown much with the children - mostly due to cost I suppose... We drive. A lot. But I stock up on little things for them to do - activity books, stickers, color wonders, bubbles, even balloons can be blown up and a ton of fun to entertain little ones.

Do you have a smart phone? Maybe load a couple of videos or movies for them. We are typically a screen free family, however, when we have a 14 or 16 hour drive, we do allow them to play on an iPad or something like that... But I recognize our bigs are bigger than yours. But still... It may entertain your two oldest at least for a bit.

Hmm... Remember that if you forget anything - you can buy it when you're there. I am constantly reminding myself of that when we travel - if a child gets sick, you forget something, chances are there's a grocery store or pharmacy or something nearby. May not be exactly what you'd want, but it will get you through.

Same goes for consumable items... I usually take our stash of diapers and wipes, but again we drive... If we were flying, I'd likely buy that stuff there to save the luggage space for what we'd really need.

Do you have an ergo? Or a baby carrier? Two words: life saver. :)

Hope some of these help... I'm sure I have more tips, but oh, that's right... I should be packing our crew for our upcoming eight day trip. Gotta run and do more laundry!!! :)

And your description of Rozann? Spot on. She is a rock star/saint/Betty Crocker/someone-who-does-crafty-things-I-don't-know-a-famous-name-for.

And the Magnificant article? So good. Pretty sure that that was being written right to me. Sheesh.

  7. Britt - Next time you do a novena for something that can be shared, post it and I'll join with you. I've definitely got the need for rain in your area on my prayer list now that I'm aware of it.

It looks like you're going to need to figure out how to add that feature to only have comments show up after they've been reviewed. Another reminder (as if we needed one!) that sin is everywhere, but grace abounds that much more.

  9. The Hulk vs. Superman could be a wonderful and epic struggle.
I have no idea who would win, but my money will be on hulk.
Hulk is like doomsday in his 1st appearance( by the way dooms day
is a lot more powerful than superman now simply because of Evolutionary Regenerative
Healing Issue which signifies he cannot be killed two times inside the same way).

He won't stop until their is a reason to stop. It would consider months, plus many planets for this struggle to conclude. It would probably end precisely the same way also. This can be a comic so I wouldn't
place to significantly importance in it.
