Sophie and I have been doing a little baking lately. We've made a few cookies and some bread recently. I get on kicks. I think it's fun to make our family's bread for the week...and then I get on kicks of buying everything from the store! So, this week it was a homemaking kick, and Sophie helped!
2 envelopes yeast
4 C. water
1/2 C. butter, softened
1/4 C. molasses (I use dark karo)
1/2 C. honey
2 tsp. salt
6 C. whole wheat flour
4 C. white flour (I think I used almost 5)
Dissolve yeast in warm water. In large bowl, combine butter, molasses, honey and salt. Mix well. Add yeast mixture, and then gradually add flours. Turn onto floured surface, and knead until smooth (I used my dough hook and my mixer instead). Place in buttered bowl, and let rise until double in size. Punch down and let rest for a few minutes. Divide dough into four parts and shape loaves. Place in greased pans and let rise for about an hour. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
And, here's my happy culinary helper! Enjoy both the bread and the way it makes your home smell!
