He's Not Napping as Much

Lately, Carter hasn't been napping every day.  I can count on him not napping at all about every third day.  I'm still in denial.  He gets out of bed every fifteen minutes or so exclaiming what a wonderful nap he took.  I threaten him, walk him back to his room, surround him with books and beg him to just rest a little bit longer so I can get a couple things done.  It lasts for about another ten minutes, and then I finally let him up.  Then, some days, after he's been up a bit and he asks me, "How was your morning?" or proclaims, "Isn't is a beauuuutiful day?!" we pull down the big bag of treats and he gets to pick one thing (don't worry, it's not one bag or skittles or a pack of starburst - it's just one of those things -- unless it's a really bad day, ha!).  Then we "visit," maybe read a book or just hang out.

So, the other day was one of those days, and he picked a starburst.

And, then he went outside to practice being Robin Hood.

Waiting for the right hunt...

...it took too long.
He's reminding me to savor these little moments...even when a thousand to-dos await!

  1. He's getting so big! At least he's getting to that stage where - soon - he'll be a HUGE help with the other kids! But for now, I'm sure that you're missing your tiny bit of alone time, during which you can get a bunch of things done!
    You're such a good mom!!! :)

  2. Britt! My three year old boy is so hard for me. On one level, three years old is so cool and I love it, but he's so willful and aware that he can just run away if he doesn't want to obey. I lose my temper so much! I need to channel some of the magic in this post. Sigh.

  3. Hey lady... Yes. It's hard when they outgrow naps but by Gods grace they're often bigger and can play independently etc. I think you've done well if he's still napping at all at age four!!!! One thing we've tried to stay consistent with here...even when they outgrow naps is to have quiet time in their rooms (or somewhere else as all of our kiddos share at this point!) alone...playing quietly, looking at books etc. As a momma it's not the same... But at least gives a brief reprieve to regroup! Hang in there ... Most of our children have given up napping around 3 to 3-1/2. I'm holding on to them at this point for as long as I can!!!

  4. Oh, I am dreading when Joseph doesn't need his nap. It really is such precious mama time! Love the photos you caught and that you are able to take in stride! Pray I have as much grace!

  5. Losing the nap is hard! We did books on CD where the occupant had to sit/lay for one CD so I could have a little time.
