7 Quick Takes...

7 quick takes sm1 7 Quick Takes Friday (vol. 217)

Doing the usual Friday thing, and linking with Jen!

1.  I know a lot of people have been writing about their experiences with bugs lately.  Jen's would have sent me over the edge.  Seriously.  Well, I have a little one of my own, too.  We live in a dry (very dry) area, and we had our house sprayed inside and out just two weeks ago.  One last note before I get to the meat of this...I wear house shoes.  We have a lot of wood/tile, and I don't like my feet to be cold ever, so I wear house shoes.  Because I was lazy the other night, I didn't go get my shoes (that weren't in my room) for the night...just went barefoot.  Well, when little John Paul woke at 5:30, I grabbed him out of his crib and stepped on something crunchy.  I thought, "Hmm, maybe a dead leaf?" and didn't look.  A couple hours later, when the room was light, I remembered stepping on something and went back to check/throw away what it was...a CENTIPEDE!  A 3-4 inch.centipede.that.I.stepped.on.  I am still alive.  It isn't.

2.  I brag about my sister a lot.  If you knew her, you would too!  She is the sweetest, most thoughtful, creative person you know.  And, she is good at everything she does.  Didn't run in high school - no problem.  She runs marathons now.  Didn't take art in school - no problem.  She has drawings hanging in the ND architecture school from her freshman year.  Writes like she is a calligrapher, decorates packages like high-end department stores, prays like a saint...you get the picture.  She also works with Father Robert Barron.  And, she wrote this post this week.  Read it!

3.  I sometimes have a hard time trying again.  Sometimes I get "burned" and then give up.  Then I think, "Don't be silly, Britt.  Do the right thing."  I have conversations with myself a lot :)  Then I try again, something goes wrong and well, I get mad at myself, thinking "You should have known this would happen!"  Whether it is with friends, family or those I barely know, instead of loving without condition, I often love with the condition of what will be good for me...will I feel better about it?  Can I say that I tried even if they didn't?  Can I do this half-way, then mark it off the list saying I "did my best" to make the situation better?  And, do I do things simply for my peace of mind and in a way for others to see that I am not the one "in the wrong."  Yes, I have a lot to work on.  My mom texted yesterday to make sure I read the meditation in The Magnificat for May 16th...woah!!  You really don't want to miss this either.  Thanks for the message, God :)

4.  The boys have been exploring a lot lately.  Maybe soon, Carter's head lamp will be positioned correctly and Peter will turn his flash light the correct way.  It would make for easier exploring, that's for sure!

5.  We're going to the beach with Jeremy's family this summer.  I cannot wait!  However, I have never flown with any of the boys.  And, only John Paul has been on a road trip that lasted more than four hours.  We're taking all three.  If you have ANY tips for traveling with a 3 year old, 1.5 year old, and 6 month old, I am all ears.

6.  There is nothing quite like getting a new Duluth magazine and looking for things you need with Dad :)

while picking your nose...

7.  As I am writing this post, Peter walks into the room looking like this:

Looks like he found my make-up and is trying to imitate Mama circa 1999...the no lips phenomenon.  Thanks to Hallie, I'll be using my Folex to get it out of the carpet!

Don't forget to look at all the other quick takes at The Conversion Diary!  Have a good one!

A Dad and His Boys...

I don't talk about Daddy enough.  Sometimes I even think I take for granted the amazing father he is.  Our three boys couldn't have a better role model.  After a long day of work he comes home and without a moment to rest, he jumps right into playing with the boys.  All day long, they crave his attention...sometimes even waiting at the front door saying, "Dah Dah!"  They want to wrestle.  They want to go to the barn and explore.  They want to spend time in the shop with the tools.  They want to be just.like.Dad.  Luckily, their Dad gives them that opportunity.  He is always teaching them.  Always modeling a life for them.  Always loving them.

Most importantly, he is always loving their Mama, showing these precious little ones what it means to be married and what it means to love.

While some aren't blessed with a dad who is involved, even fewer are blessed with a dad who takes such an active role.  Someday Carter, Peter and John Paul will realize how lucky they really are.  And hopefully, then, they'll pass on that love to their babies.

Jeremy shows the boys new life and how precious creation is...

even when held upside down...

He shows them that there is always fun to be had, and sometimes it is in the simplest things...

He spends time with them every single day, and there isn't a moment they are at a loss for true love.  He adores them.

And they adore him...

He teaches them to take risks...

and to conquer their fears :)

He teaches them to be men (someday), and he is as good as they come.

We love you Daddy!

Five Favorites...

Five Favorites, hosted at MoxieWife.com

Joining up with Hallie for another edition of Five Favorites...

We're going to the beach this summer with the family, and all the boys are coming with!  I've been looking at some beach attire (because while I might not really need any new stuff, it's just fun to look).  So here are a few of my favorite things...

1.  Coverup...found here.

2.  Sunglasses - Rayban Cats 1000.  There is no sun getting in with these things on.
Cats 1000 Demi-Brown / Brown Gradient

3.  Maxi dress - I found this in Real Simple the other day.

Printed long dress

4.  Sandals...I have had a pair of these Bernardos (in gold) that have lasted for years, and I wear them constantly throughout the summer!  So well made and worth it.

5.  Hat...found this by googling "beach hat," and it's a great price!
