After a Hard Day’s Work

After we got the cattle shipped to stalks, the boys and I loaded in the pick-up with Elley and went to check the cattle that were still on the ranch.  We moved a few bunches to different pastures, fed all of them and then took a break to look around in an old barn.  With a few French fries and water in hand, the boys were set and full of questions for Elley.  It was a successful afternoon, but they were definitely ready to get out and play afterwards.

So, they swung a bit, dug a few holes, and threw some rocks in the pond.

And, Peter had a bit of business to take care of…

They are Gone for Winter

So, I’ve been having a little bit of trouble with the blog lately.  It might not have helped that my husband reconfigured a bunch of things on our desktop, and I can’t find anything.  Or, it could be that fact that he also installed Windows 8 – as of now, I hate it.  Or, maybe blogger is just messing up again.  Whatever it is, I cannot upload pics.  So, sweet Sheena told me about Windows Live Writer.  It will definitely take some getting used to but maybe it’s the key!  We’ll see!

These cattle left the ranch today.  We’re finally entering the home stretch with this year’s babies.  We weaned them about a month ago (always a hard thing for them) and have been taking care of them and making sure all are well before we send them to corn stalks to fatten up through the winter.  Yep, our cattle eat more than grass.

It’s hard to believe this is a 9 month old baby, isn’t it!

With these gone, life on the ranch will get somewhat slower.  We have some cows who will calve within the next month, and our bigger crop will calve starting in March.  So, for now, it’s feeding them, watching for sickness and keeping a close eye on the first-year mommas (who are known to have trouble having their first calves). 

We got these shipped out just in time for a cold front moving in tomorrow.  Hopefully it’s a wet winter!

Blog Help

Can any of you help me with a blog problem?  I can no longer upload pictures.  I use Chrome and am not reaching my capacity.  It's just that when I click on the icon to insert a picture, a blank box pops up (not one that allows you to click on a button to upload pics from your computer).  Anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it?
